While we were on our Around Australia trip we met a couple by the names of Murray and Joyce, two Canadians who were touring Australia on their bikes - motorbikes. Murray and Joyce had stopped at Edith Falls on their way around both as a place to see and for a campsite. We on the other hand had spent the previous night camped at the junction of the main highway and the road to Edith Falls. When we awoke the next morning Joanne decided that we would ride the 20 km's to the falls for a look, after all, we were not in any hurry. So there we were sitting on the trikes at our campsite at Edith Falls when we noticed this couple who waved as they walked past us. We thought nothing more of it until they came for a chat on their way back to their camp. Murray and Joyce sat and spent some time with us and as it turned out, we had more in common than we knew - and we just clicked. We all spent the rest of the afternoon and evening chatting about ourselves and our respective trips, plans, dreams and ideas. After our chance meeting we kept in contact with Murray and Joyce, and it was during that contact they offered to let us stay with them if we ever went to Canada - and so the seed was planted, and the trip conceived. A trip across Canada and around the United States. I am not sure where the idea of riding Alaska came from, but for some reason I have this notion in my head that Alaska is one of the final frontiers on this planet, is a little bit challenging, and cycling it is not something most people do. So, as with our trip around Australia, and my not wanting to be on my deathbed wishing "I had done that", this trip will include Alaska. How did I convince Joanne to come and do it with me? Well, she, like me, has been itching to get back on the road and with Murray and Joyce's offer, it seemed like a good idea, the Alaska bit though, she is not too sure about. As a condition of going to Alaska however, is that Joanne has told me that I have to swim in the Arctic Ocean, and so the idea of swimming in all three oceans came to mind, as did the name for this trip - 3 Oceans on 3 Wheels.
